What is a cookie?
A cookie is a small text file placed on your device (computer, smartphone, tablet) by the websites you visit. It allows the website to remember information about your visit, such as your preferred language, your display preferences, or anonymous statistical information about your browsing.
Cookies may be placed by the site itself (first-party cookies) or by third-party services embedded by the site (third-party cookies). Their placement and reading are governed by article 82 of the French Data Protection Act and the CNIL recommendations.
The cookies we use
Our website takes a minimalist approach. We classify the trackers in use into two main categories:
- Strictly necessary cookies, which are essential for the website to function (placed without consent, in accordance with article 82 of the French Data Protection Act).
- Anonymous audience measurement cookies, which are placed only after you have given explicit consent.
Strictly necessary cookies
These cookies are essential for the proper functioning of the website. They cannot be disabled:
- Session cookies: keep your browsing consistent between pages (duration: browser session).
- Cookie-preferences cookie: stores the choices made in the cookie banner so that you are not asked again on every visit (duration: 6 months).
Audience measurement cookies (with consent)
When you consent, we use Google Analytics 4 to measure the audience of the website in an anonymised way. This tool helps us improve content and navigation thanks to the following aggregated statistics:
- Number of unique visitors and page views
- Most visited pages and time spent on each
- Traffic source (search engine, direct link, social network)
- Type of device and browser used
- Country and region of the visit (no finer location)
We have configured Google Analytics 4 with the following settings to respect your privacy:
- IP address anonymisation enabled by default
- Data sharing with Google for advertising purposes disabled
- Data retention period limited to 14 months
- No use of user identification signals (Google Signals disabled)
Third-party tools that may place cookies
Some features of the website rely on third-party services:
- Vercel (hosting): may place technical cookies to ensure the availability and security of the service.
- Google Fonts: fonts are self-hosted via Next.js, so no third-party cookies are placed through this channel.
- Airbnb booking platform: if you click on a link to an Airbnb listing from our website, cookies may be placed by Airbnb under its own policy.
- WhatsApp: the WhatsApp contact button redirects to Meta's servers, which may place their own cookies if you interact with them.
- Unsplash: blog images are served from the Unsplash CDN, which may use technical caching cookies.
Managing your cookie preferences
You can change your cookie preferences at any time:
- Via the cookie banner that appears on your first visit, or via the dedicated link in the website footer.
- Via your browser settings, which allow you to accept, refuse or delete cookies on a case-by-case basis or systematically. You will find instructions for each browser on their respective official sites: Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge.
- Via the Your Online Choices service by IAB Europe: www.youronlinechoices.com.
Refusing audience measurement cookies does not affect your browsing on the site. On the other hand, refusing strictly necessary cookies may prevent certain features from working correctly.
Retention periods
In line with the CNIL recommendations, the validity period of cookie consent is a maximum of 6 months. After this period, the cookie banner will appear again to collect your choice.
Data collected via audience measurement cookies is kept for a maximum of 14 months, in line with the CNIL recommendations on this point.
Your rights
You hold all the rights described in our privacy policy over the data collected via cookies: access, rectification, erasure, restriction, objection, portability, withdrawal of consent.
